Everyone has untapped potential

Thank you for visiting my website and I hope you will be able to find all the information you need. This year I celebrate 25 years as a Speech and Language Therapist having qualified in 1991 with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Speech) Hons. degree from Sheffield University.  During that time I have worked in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, schools, colleges and a G.P. Surgery.

Until 2007 I was the Specialist Speech and Language Therapist for the Southern Derbyshire Head Injury Service and the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Derby Hospitals. I also had responsibility for setting up and running a flagship service for a group of G.Ps. in Uttoxeter and a local hospital in Ashbourne.

From 2007 until 2012 I worked with College students aged 16-19 years who have been diagnosed with a range of communication difficulties resulting from brain injury, autistic spectrum disorder and specific language disorder. Currently, as an independent Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, I cover a range of neurological communication disorders, specialising in working with teenagers and adults with traumatic and acquired brain injury.  Based on my experience of clients responding well to a functional approach, I set goals that motivate and engage clients towards reaching their full potential.

I recognise the need to work within the context of the family unit to ensure the effectiveness of my therapy and I am particularly passionate about the importance of working around transition.
